Where does the money go?
Every ponytail chopped, and every dollar raised will help fund crucial local cancer prevention work. You can find out more information about your impact here.
How much hair do I need to cut off?
Ponytail Project is all about raising funds and collecting ponytails of 20cm or longer to create wigs for people going through hair loss.
In saying that, we recognise people might still want to take part and contribute even if they don’t have long hair. You can still donate hair shorter than 20cm; while it can’t be turned into a wig, Sustainable Salons can still put it to good use (did you know that hair is an excellent material for soaking up oil spills?)
For details on donating hair 20cm or longer, please visit the Sustainable Salons website.
To learn about donating hair less than 20cm, please visit here.
I received a cash donation; how do I bank this money?
Look at you go! You can bank cash donations through the dashboard of your online fundraising page. Once logged in, click on 'My Donations', from here click on 'Add Offline Donation'. Alternatively our team can provide you with some unique banking details, please contact us and we can sort this out for you!
When should I host my chop event and cut my ponytail?
Anytime that suits you or your school’s calendar. You can add the date during your registration.
Do I need to hire a hairdresser or visit a salon to #RockTheChop?
It can be really helpful to visit a salon or hire a professional hairdresser for big chop events. Some school groups ask hairdressers if they can donate their time for the cause.
However, you don’t need to work with a hairdresser to #RockTheChop. You can find more information about how to properly do your own chops here.
How do I close my fundraising page and send in the funds I raised?
Congratulations on finishing your fundraising! You are a superstar! Our team at Cancer Council will close your fundraising page at the end of the year and ensure all your incredible funds raised are donated through to us properly.
Does Cancer Council Queensland accept hair donations?
All hair should be donated to our partner, Sustainable Salons. Visit the Sustainable Salons website to find your nearest salon to hand over your donation. Unfortunately, we can’t accept hair donations at Cancer Council Queensland.
Do students need approval from their parent or guardian?
Anyone under the age of 18 conducting a fundraising event or activity must be appropriately supervised by an adult.
When a child is under the age of 12, they must only carry out Fundraising Activities under the direct supervision of a parent or carer.
Do Sustainable Salons give the wigs to people going through cancer?
